Zeeland steunde de V.O.C. bij haar interpretatie van het monopolie. In 1615 maakte de zoon van Isaak Lemaire, Jaques, tezamen met Willem Cornelisz. Schouten, voor rekening van de Austraalsche Compagnie, een reis. Aan deze tocht danken wij de geografische namen: `Kaap Hoorn&#039;, &#039;Straat Lemaire&#039; en &#039;Schouteneiland&#039; Met de totstandkoming van de [[West]]-Indische Compagnie in 1621 was de Austraalsche Compagnie gedoemd te verdwijnen.<br /> <br /> <br /> AUTEUR <br /> <br /> R.
