Aanvankelijk gebruikte hij veel tekst in zijn werken, later werd dat steeds minder. Hij had van 1973-2007 een atelier in Middelburg en woonde van 1990-2006 in Amsterdam. In dat laatste jaar vestigde hij zich in Berlijn. Sleeuwenhoek, die ook keramieken objecten vervaardigt (artist in residence Europees Keramisch Werkcentrum Den Bosch, 1992, 2000-2001), nam vanaf 1974 deel aan tentoonstellingen (sinds 1978 ook solo-exposities). Hij verbleef tussen 1984 en 1996 regelmatig in India.
