<p>Importing text file</p> <p><b>Nieuwe pagina</b></p><div>{{Infobox<br /> | above = Heikant<br /> }}<br /> <br /> &#039;&#039;&#039;Tekst uit de Encyclopedie van Zeeland 1982-1984 &#039;&#039;&#039;<br /> <br /> <br /> Langgerekt dorp in de voormalige gemeenten [[Koewacht]] en [[St]].-Jansteen, seder 1 april 1970 grotendeels ingedeeld bij de gemeente Hulst en een kleiner deel bji Axel, Oost Zeeuws-Vlaanderen: gelegen nabij de Belgische grens: 1085 inw. (1980). In Heikant is enige industrie gevestigd o.a. een zeilmakerij waar zo’n 90% van de Nederlandse productie van krantenfietstassen wordt geproduceerd.<br /> <br /> Varia: Kermis op de vierde zondag van oktober t/m dinsdag d.a.v.<br /> <br /> Geschiedenis: Heikant ressorteerde oorspronkelijk onder de parochie St.-Jansteen. Toen in en na de Eerste Wereldoorlog het inwoneraantal en de welvaart in Heikant sterk toenamen, werd aan de bevolking van het dorp toestemming verleend een eigen parochie te stichten en een kerk te bouwen. De parochie werd opgericht op 15 juli 1930. De moderne kerk van architect F.B. Sturm werd op 24 september 1933 door de bisschop van Breda geconsacreerd. <br /> <br /> <br /> AUTEUR<br /> <br /> J.A.
