Zulks zeer tegen de zin van Oldenbarnevelt. Een jaar later (1619) behoort hij met dezelfde Manmaker tot het college van 24 rechters, dat tenslotte over de landsadvocaat het doodvonnis zou uitspreken. Toen het vonnis was geveld stelde Schotte voor zijn vriend Walaeus (predikant te Middelburg), die de vergaderingen van de synode te Dordrecht bijwoonde, op te halen om Oldenbarnevelt in zijn laatste uren bij te staan. Schotte werd voor zijn aandeel in proces en vonnis door de Staten van Zeeland vereerd met zilverwerk ter waarde van f 200 en werd een jaar later door de Staten-Generaal benoemd in een gezantschap naar Engeland, misschien mede vanwege zijn kennis van Oostindische zaken. Bij deze gelegenheid werd hij tot ridder geslagen en de Engelse gezant in Den Haag, Carleton, noemde hem 'the soul of this great bodi of ambassadors, being a man of most quickness ability and of good reputation for sincerity'. Na de dood van Maurits maakte hij deel uit van de Zeeuwse delegatie die Frederik Hendrik het stadhouderschap moest opdragen.
