Hij werd door Philips de Goede op het Gravensteen gevangen gezet, nadat deze te Middelburg, om daar de vierschaar te spannen, overstelpt was met klachten over Van Domburchs gewelddadig optreden. Hij wist echter te ontsnappen en verschanste zich in de toren van de Minderbroederskerk. Volgens het verhaal van een ooggetuige, Olivier de la Marche (1426-1501), page en later edelman in het gevolg van Philips, zou hij zich al na drie dagen hebben willen overgeven als niet zijn zuster, een non, hem telkens toeschreeuwde dat hij strijdend diende te sterven, wilde hij de familienaam niet bezoedelen. Hij heeft zich tenslotte toch overgegeven en werd op het marktplein onthoofd. Zijn zuster kreeg toestemming hem in gewijde aarde te begraven.<br /> <br /> <br /> AUTEUR<br /> <br /> L.
