Over zijn afkomst en opleiding is niets bekend. Hij was als stadsdokter te Middelburg jaren lang een gerenommeerd, rechtschapen man. Banga prees hem als een voorzichtig en bedachtzaam geneesheer, die de theoriën van orthodoxe geneesheren met grote reserve bekeek. J. Radermacher J .C., die een van zijn werken in leidde, noemde hem: &#039;Natuurkind, schrander aangeronnen, Ontsonk de Pegaas hengste-bronnen; Een flonker-ster van ’t Leyds Atheen, Spitst door de dikke neevlen heen&#039;. Baggaart schreef veelgelezen werken, vooral over uitslagziekten: &#039;De waarheid ontward van vooroordeelen, door eene gezonde redekaveling over de zes niet-natuerlijke dingen enz. Met een voorreden over de kinderpokjes, mitsgaders eenige aanmerkingen over de fermentatie en de hoofdstoffen. Waarin de dwaling van acidum en alcali klaar werd aangewezen en wederlegt&#039;(Middelburg 1696). en &#039;De Kinderpokken en de Maselen na haren Aard, Oorzaken, Kenteekenen, Voorteekenen en Genesinge beschreven, met Wederleggings van &#039;t Oude Gevoelen van de lijders, bijnaar te doen verstikken door &#039;t sterk Uitbroeijen en heete Levenswijs&#039; (Amsterdam 1710), en &#039;Over de scheurbuik&#039; (Middelburg 1696).<br /> <br /> <br /> AUTEUR<br /> <br /> A.M.
