In 1857 begon men met de verbinding tot in de haven van Sluis. Het kanaal werd geopend in 1858. Na vernielingen door terugtrekkende Franse troepen in 1940 werd het kanaal op Belgisch grondgebied afgedamd, waardoor twee kanaalgedeelten ontstonden; sindsdien is scheepvaart tot in Sluis niet meer mogelijk.<br /> <br /> <br /> AUTEUR<br /> <br /> J.
