Hij week reeds als ongeveer twintigjarige wegens Calvinistische sympathieën uit naar Londen, waar hij zich voorbereidde op het predikambt. Hij was in 1573 hoogleraar Grieks te Cambridge. In 1578 keerde hij terug naar Gent en doceerde daar in de gereformeerde Latijnse school. Hij verkreeg een toelage voor de jongen die hem, als blinde man, al vroeg moest begeleiden. Na de overgang van Gent in 1584 vertrok Clayssone naar Middelburg, waar zijn vrouw Catharina van Afhuizen reeds vertoefde. Vrijwel onmiddellijk werd hij daar aangesteld tot rector van de Latijnse School. Reeds op 10 december 1584 werd &#039;de blinde rector&#039; begraven.<br /> <br /> == Auteur ==<br /> -A.C.F.
