Hij liet in Goes de zolderkerk in de Singelstraat verbouwen tot een gelijkvloerse huiskerk, gelijkend op de 0nze Lieve Heer op Solder in Amsterdam, met uitgebroken verdiepingen. Hij was de eerste pastoor die zelf Catechismus gaf: te voren werd dit door de &#039;klopjes&#039; gedaan. Charliers was de strenge beginselen van Jansenius toegedaan en werd daarom geëxcommuniceerd. Hij weigerde echter zijn functie neer te leggen, zodat zijn opvolger anderhalf jaar op het Slot Ostende moest verblijven. Eerst werd hij door de magistraat en twee predikanten gesteund, maar tenslotte liet eerstgenoemde hem vallen, omdat de neringdoenden klaagden dat de katholieken van het land niet meer naar de stad kwamen om te kerken en dus geen inkopen meer deden.<br /> <br /> == Auteur ==<br /> -C.P.M.
