Het lag aan de zuidzijde van wat nu het Grote Gat is, een paar km. ten oosten van Oostburg. Als parochie vinden we St.-Catharina vermeld in 1243. De St.-Pietersabdij te Gent bezat hier het patronaatsrecht en maakte aanspraak op de tienden. St.-Catharina is het slachtoffer geworden van de stormvloed van 1375/76, maar heeft zich hersteld; de kerk werd waarschijnlijk in circa 1400 herbouwd. In 1530 bestond in ieder geval het dorp nog: definitieve ondergang waarschijnlijk in 1583. In 1962 zijn hij werkzaamheden aan een weg langs de [[Cathalijner]] Schans nog overblijfselen van dorp en kerk in de grond aangetroffen.<br /> <br /> <br /> = AUTEUR =<br /> = S.J.M.
